Stuart Nash sacked from cabinet after exposed email

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins announced Stuart Nash's removal from all ministerial portfolios on Tuesday evening following the emergence of a new email earlier in the day.

This comes after Hipkins was considering the 'implications' of an email Mr Nash sent in 2020 to business figures detailing disagreements around the Cabinet table.

The Prime Minister said Nash's actions are 'inexcusable' and would have been enough for an immediate dismissal if he had known about it earlier.

"This is a clear breach of collective responsibility and Cabinet confidentiality.

"Stuart Nash has fundamentally breached my trust and the trust of his Cabinet colleagues and his conduct is inexcusable."

Prior to this, Nash was on his final warning after resigning as Police Minister earlier in the month.

Minister Megan Woods will be Acting Minister for Economic Development and Acting Minister of Forestry, and Minister David Parker will be Acting Minister for Oceans and Fisheries.
