'It's mostly all back up' - Netspeed on communication services affected by Cyclone Gabrielle

This article was produced by Today FM in association with Netspeed.

A lot of news coverage around Cyclone Gabrielle has been surrounded by the loss of almost all communication services across affected areas - For more on the rebuilding of connections, and much more, REX Today host Dominic George was joined by the owner of Netspeed and friend of the show, Stan Rivett.

Rivett thanked those on the ground to help get the network back online.

“It's mostly all backup," Rivett said.

"The guys from Chorus and Downer, Vodafone and Spark all of those guys did a hell of a job getting all that infrastructure back up and running."

Connections aren't back online for the whole East Coast yet, however.

“Most of the network is back up, there are a few transmitters still not going because they just can't access them. They can't get power to them. But in general, it's going really well”

And workers on the ground have been able to get affected residents reconnected to the outside work thanks to some good old Kiwi ingenuity.

“I've seen some photos from some of the guys and insight, where they've run a few hundred metres of fibre just draped across some trees to try and get it from one point to the other.”

To hear more from Stan, and how you can win yourself a new phone thanks to Netspeed, check out the full interview with REX Today and Stan Rivett above.
